As the "dog days" of summer draw to a close, dogs of all breeds and sizes can be seen on the big screen at the Mahaiwe at the inaugural "Dog Film Festival" on Sunday at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., a fundraiser for the Berkshire Humane Society.

Due to its continued overwhelming, sold-out success in New York City, the Dog Film Festival is expanding to visit cities across the United States for the first-time ever this summer and fall. The brainchild of Tracie Hotchner, the tour will be stopping in 12 locations, including East Hampton. The Festival honors the unparalleled connection between dogs and their families, and the Hamptons screenings will benefit the Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons (ARF), with 50 percent of the Festival's net proceeds and a 10,000-bowl donation of natural pet food from sponsor Halo, Purely for Pets and Freekibble.com. Hotchner established the Festival in 2014 with the hopes of growing her Radio Pet Lady Network's outreach to teach the community about "adoption, pet wellness issues and philosophical aspects of pets in our lives."

First there were cat videos, which were shown in Southampton earlier this summer. Now, the canine crowd will have their chance to celebrate their favorite pets at the Dog Film Festival on Tuesday at Guild Hall.
Walking down the sidewalk on any summer day, it becomes obvious that many East End residents are dog lovers. Those residents often seen with a leash in hand—and any animal lover—are in for a nice treat as the one-of-a-kind Dog Film Festival comes to East Hampton.
Who let the dogs out… on the big screen? After its great success in New York City, the first ever Dog Film Festival will be touring different cities around the country, including a pit stop in the Hamptons.
Located in East Hampton, the event will help celebrate everlasting ties between people and their dogs and will benefit the Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons (ARF) with 50% of the festival’s net proceeds and a 10,000-bowl donation of natural pet food from Purely for Pets, Freekibble.com and Halo. ARF will also have adoptable dogs on hand.
The Dog Film Festival is a cinematic celebration of the remarkable bond between pets and people. Perfect for dog lovers of all ages, the festival comprised of two separate programs of entirely different canine-themed films; one at 11 a.m. and the other at 1:30 p.m. While both screenings are family-friendly, the second program does include films with subtitles which may be a challenge for younger kids and non-readers. Each screening includes documentary, animated and live-action shorts that illuminate the human-canine bond, submitted by dog-loving filmmakers from around the world. Each screening is approximately 90 minutes long. And, well behaved dogs are welcome to join their humans at the event!
